SPRAINED ANKLE PROGRAM
The Earlier We Can See Them The Faster They Can Recover
Grade I and some Grade II ankle sprains can
affect an individuals ability to function at work, at home, or
at play. Many people are unsure of what they can do, how much
pain to allow, and what is the best way to regain function as
fast as possible. The sooner we can see an
individual after injury the better the outcome.
The Sprained Ankle Program was
developed by Gary Lusin, PT, MS, ATC, CSCS several years ago to
specifically reduce swelling, pain, poor gait, caution on the
part of the patient, and to restore function and confidence in
the patient to resume activities of daily living and work
activity.
The Sprained Ankle Program has been
very successful with persons of all ages and skills, including
athletes and injured workers. Components of the Program are:
·
Focused examination of the injured ankle and lower
extremity
·
Application of a specific taping technique to
reduce swelling and provide support
·
Use of specific manual therapy soft tissue
mobilization techniques, if necessary
·
Instruction and counseling to the patient about
home care and activity level
·
Instruction and counseling for pain control,
proper gait, weight bearing, and balance
techniques
·
Ultrasound (if necessary)
·
Instruction in progression of closed chain
exercises to restore function
·
Up to 5 visits over a 10-21 day period
·
Total cost of $80.00
This program is NOT for significant
Grade II or Grade III ankle injuries, as those require different
healing parameters and more involved physical therapy treatment.
This program has proven to be very cost
effective for patients and is extremely effective in getting
patients back to optimum function as soon as possible, and in a
safe manner.
